Manuscript Types
Jurnal Ilmu Komputer dan Informatika (JIKI) accepts two types of manuscripts: Research Articles and Review Articles. Submissions must fall within the journal’s Focus and Scope, particularly machine learning, data mining, and artificial intelligence. They must also rest on a sound scientific foundation and make a meaningful contribution to the theory, methods, or applications of computer science and informatics.
All submissions first undergo an initial editorial screening and then a double-blind peer review process in accordance with JIKI’s editorial policies.
1. Research Article
A Research Article reports original research that offers a new contribution to computer science and informatics. The contribution may take the form of:
- A new or improved algorithm, model, or method.
- A new system, framework, or architecture.
- A rigorous empirical or comparative evaluation.
- A new dataset or benchmark.
- A substantive application of machine learning, data mining, or artificial intelligence to a real-world problem.
Research may be experimental, computational, theoretical, design- and development-based, or empirical, using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods as appropriate to the research objectives.
A Research Article must:
- State a clear research problem, explicit objectives, and the specific contributions of the work.
- Position the work against relevant prior studies and the current state of the art.
- Describe the methodology in enough detail for others to reproduce it. This includes, where applicable, data sources and characteristics, preprocessing steps, model architecture or algorithm design, parameter and hyperparameter settings, experimental setup, computing environment, and evaluation metrics.
- Support its findings with adequate evidence, such as fair comparisons with appropriate baseline or state-of-the-art methods, ablation or sensitivity analyses where relevant, and statistical analysis of results where appropriate.
- Interpret the results critically, discussing their significance, limitations, threats to validity, and implications for future research or practice.
Application-oriented studies must go beyond simply implementing existing tools or methods. They should show a clear scientific contribution, such as methodological adaptation, rigorous evaluation, or new insights into the problem domain.
A Research Article generally consists of the following sections:
- Title
- Abstract and Keywords
- Introduction
- Related Work (may be included in the Introduction)
- Research Method
- Results and Discussion
- Conclusion
- Acknowledgements (if any)
- Declarations (e.g., author contributions, conflicts of interest, funding, data and code availability, and use of generative AI, where applicable)
- References
The structure may be adapted to the research design, in line with the JIKI Author Guidelines and manuscript template.
2. Review Article
A Review Article critically examines, evaluates, and synthesises published literature on a specific topic within JIKI’s Focus and Scope. It aims to:
- Give a structured overview of the current state of knowledge.
- Classify and compare existing methods, models, datasets, and evaluation practices.
- Identify trends, open challenges, and research gaps.
- Propose directions for future research.
JIKI accepts reviews that follow a systematic, transparent, and reproducible methodology, including:
- Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR)
- Scoping Reviews
- Systematic Mapping Studies
- Meta-analyses
- Comprehensive surveys of a well-defined research area, provided they present a clear methodology and an original taxonomy or analytical framework
A Review Article must do more than summarise previous studies. It must offer critical analysis, comparative synthesis, identification of knowledge gaps, and a clear contribution to the field. Purely descriptive or unstructured narrative reviews will not be considered.
A Review Article generally consists of the following sections:
- Title
- Abstract and Keywords
- Introduction
- Review Methodology
- Results and Synthesis
- Discussion (including open challenges and future research directions)
- Conclusion
- Declarations
- References
For systematic and other structured reviews, authors must clearly describe:
- The research questions.
- The databases or sources searched and the time span covered.
- The search strategy and search strings.
- The inclusion and exclusion criteria.
- The study selection process.
- The data extraction procedure.
- Quality assessment and synthesis methods, where relevant.
Authors are encouraged to follow recognised guidelines for the type of review, such as PRISMA 2020 for systematic reviews and meta-analyses, PRISMA-ScR for scoping reviews, or established guidelines for systematic literature reviews in computer science and software engineering. A flow diagram of the study selection process is strongly recommended.
3. General Requirements
All Research Articles and Review Articles submitted to JIKI must meet the following requirements:
- The manuscript is original, academically sound, and within the journal’s Focus and Scope.
- The manuscript has not been published before and is not under consideration by another journal. Substantially extended versions of conference papers may be considered if the earlier version is cited and the extension adds significant new content.
- The manuscript follows the JIKI Author Guidelines, manuscript template, and citation style.
- All references, data, datasets, source code, figures, tables, pre-trained models, and other third-party materials are properly cited or acknowledged and used in line with their licences.
- Authors disclose any conflicts of interest and relevant funding information.
- Authors are encouraged to make data and source code publicly available, or to explain in a Data and Code Availability statement why this is not possible.
- Research involving human participants, personal data, or other subjects requiring ethical consideration complies with applicable ethical standards, approval requirements, and data protection regulations.
- Any use of generative AI tools in preparing the manuscript is disclosed in accordance with journal policy.
- All authors have approved the submitted manuscript and accept responsibility for the integrity of the work.
Manuscripts that do not meet these basic requirements, or that fall outside the journal’s Focus and Scope, may be returned to the authors without peer review (desk rejection).
4. Manuscript Submission
Authors must select the correct manuscript type when submitting through the journal system. Before submitting, authors must read and follow the JIKI Author Guidelines and use the official manuscript template. Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English.
